Due to the enforced school closure we have prepared a learning pack so that your child is still able to access the learning at home.
The expectations will be that your child is still completing work that we have set which will be similar if not the same as the work that they would be completing in school. Activities will be set through our new home learning platform called ‘Purple Mash’ (A brief description and tutorial will be included at the bottom of this page)
Below is a copy of the timetable we follow at school.
English – A purple mash activity will be set every day. We expect your child to be practising the Year 3/4 spelling words as we have noticed this is still an area that needs consolidation.
Guided Reading – Each Thursday we expect your child to complete one comprehension activity from their home book. In addition your child should be reading for at least 15 minutes a day which will be logged in their reading diary.
Maths – We have included a stapled pack of worksheets to consolidate your child’s understanding of number in Year 5. These are dated and should be completed one a day. We also include the answers to guide your child’s marking. We also expect your child to continue playing ‘Times Table Rock Stars’.
Science – Every Thursday a science lesson will be available via the developing expert’s website for children to explore. This can be accessed with a log in which will be stuck onto the inside of the front cover of their home learning book.
PE – Your child would normally have PE twice a week, please use this time to encourage your child to get up and get moving. There is a resource available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3LPrhI0v-w (5 minute workouts for your child to enjoy)
Other curriculum areas – PSHE, ICT, Music, RE, MFL and Art & DT. We will endeavour to find activities to enable your children to continue developing in these areas, these will be set via Purple Mash. In addition we will create a menu of suggested activities.
Purple Mash is a new home learning platform that will allow children to complete tasks set by us during the closure.
Please see attached YouTube clip explaining Purple Mash for parents (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhbwcwAKwhs)
Suggested websites that you can access if you want any additional resources to those provided by the Year 5 team:
This will include a variety of activities designed particularly for this year group.
If your child still needs to access banded books, this website will give you free access to many e-book. You will need to register as a parent first.
www.pobble365.com Here the children can see a picture every day to inspire writing. This is a great way to practise basic sentence construction. The picture could be printed off and stuck into their learning book.
www.topmarks.co.uk Includes many English and Maths games
Thank you for all your support and look forward to seeing your children again in class.
